San Diego Part 1

At the beginning of June we took a Walker family vacation to San Diego, CA. It actually was colder than I thought it would be in the mornings, but the weather turned out to be nice! Reed had his first experience swimming in a pool and the verdict is that he loves the water!!! I could have guessed that since he likes bath time so much. He kicked in the water for about 15 minutes straight! It was amazing :) I even laid him on his back and he would get excited and flail his arms and kick his legs super hard. It was just so cute! His cousin, Vance, does NOT share the same love of the water. He just wanted to get out as soon as we got in! Hopefully, he will like the water as he gets older! So, while I was in the pool with Reed, Tyson was scuba diving with his dad, sister, and brother-in-law (I am not certified...so could not go). I am actually not too sad that I missed it because they all ended getting sick and throwing up - a total of 11 times between the four of them! My brother-in-law, Adam, even ended up throwing up while he was scuba diving!!! They say it wasn't the best diving in the world, but definitely the most memorable dive trip they have taken.

Reed's first swimming experience!

Later on that day, we went to beach! So, Reed got his first view of the ocean as well! I can't say that he was too excited...he was actually starving, so we only stayed for a little while. But, in the time we did have on the beach, we managed to get his hat all sandy and he got sand all over him despite the fact that he did not get close to the sand! Go figure!

Reed at the beach for a few minutes -

Vance loved the sand, even though he didn't really like the water :)

It was actually not the warmest day, which is why my coat is on! But, the beach looked beautiful!

In the hotel room, Reed took his naps in the closet and slept under the sink at night!

The next day, we went to Sea World! I don't think I have been there since I was little. It was great to see all the shows again. The Shamu show has really gotten huge....it always was, but they have done a whole lot with the show. The day was filled with seeing all the cool shows and even going on some rides. There was a roller coaster like Splash Mountain sort of. We went on the water part first and then the roller coaster. I am not the hugest fan of roller coasters, but I am willing to go on them. I do have to say that one was pretty fun!

A major part of the Walker family trips is the food! Hence, the pictures with us stuffing our faces! Yummy :) Even Reed is eating (his fingers, that is)!

Look out for part 2 of San Diego tomorrow

The Suit :)

So, I forgot to do the updates after Reed's 2-month checkup! Well, he went on May 15th and here are the stats:
Head circumference - 40.5 cm, 66%; Length - 23.2 in, 68%; Weight - 12 lb 6 oz, 65%
All-in-all..he is doing great! I figured it out and since his 2 week appointment, Reed has gained a little over 10 ounces a week! From what I have read, the regular amount to gain is 6-8 ounces...so, Reed just really likes to eat! He is fabulous! I love being a mom! Recently, he has really started talking to us! It's so fun! He makes a noise and then we do it back, then he does it back! He talked to me for 10 minutes the other day! He has chuckled a few times and just loves to smile! He is such a happy little boy :) I love it! I will try and get a video of him talking...it's just so cute! Yes, you can totally tell that I am a first-time mom! I soak up everything that my child does!

In other news, Reed has worn a suit to church for the past 2 Sundays! (Thanks Grandma Rowberry). He is definitely the best dressed there and is such a heart breaker. Here are some photos of his amazing little suit! This is week one -

"I look so good in this suit!"

This is week two-

"I'm trying to do my stone face, but it's a little hard because I don't know what that looks like."

"I'm still a little confused as to what is going on!"

"Hey! How are you? Can I play?"

So, Reed really loves his sleep and trying to wake him up is not always the funnest thing in the world. This is just an example - he starts to wiggle and grunt and averts his eyes from my direction. It makes me laugh, so I had to take a picture just to remember how hard he tries to stay asleep some times :)

Baby News :)

Recently, our friends, Colby and Audrey, had a beautiful baby boy - Eli Stone :) So, we went to visit and were comparing sizes! Note the difference in birth weight - Reed 6 pounds 14 ounces, Eli 10 pounds 2 ounces! Right away we noticed that Eli wasn't that much lighter than Reed and Reed was 7 weeks at the time!!!! But, Reed is growing a ton and weighs around 12 1/2 pounds :)

If there is one thing that I love that is completely impractical, it is baby shoes! Reed is not walking quite yet :), but I had to put these amazingly cute shoes on him! Thanks Darby, Melissa, and Heather! I just can't get over how much I love baby shoes!

So, Reed needed some shorts since it is supposed to be getting hotter here in Utah (but, the weather is simply crazy). So, we splurged and went to Baby Gap!!! These are some seriously nice shorts - better than any pair that I own! It's so cute because Reed has a long body and short legs! So, he is growing out of his 0-3 months onsies, but the 0-3 months shorts are still pants on him! I love it :)

Reed is still enjoying tummy time, especially when he has something interesting to look at! He also loves to pose when he has cool clothes on!

So, below is the outfit that Reed came home in! It's crazy because he is growing out of it! His arms are too long for it and when he stretches out, the neckline is kind of like an old man's neckline - kind of saggy because it has been stretched out many times! The difference is that Reed has stretched it out because he is so long and not so chubby :) I love it! So, this is today's picture (May 14, 2008 - 2 months old)

This is the day he went home (March 15, 2008) - He is getting so big! 2 months of growth - amazing :)

Graduation, Blessing, and Lots of Fun!

On Saturday, April 26, Reed took his first trip to the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake! This his him along with his aunt, Krystal, and Tyson...and of course, the elephant!

On Sunday, April 27, Reed was blessed! I do have to say that he was the best dressed of anyone there! Can you beat a suit with a satin cumber bun and tie! Not to mention that his coat has tails! I will have to get a better picture of the back to show them off :) The blessing was so amazing! I am very grateful that there is a worthy Priesthood holder in my home! My sister, Shauntelle, and her family were able to come up from Vegas! Also, my brother, Michael, and his family were able to come down from Logan! Tyson's family was able to stay the whole weekend and his aunt and her family were able to come from Spanish Fork area :) It was a beautiful day!

The cutest kid in the world!

These past few weeks have been busy and tons of fun! On April 24-25 Tyson graduated with his Master's degree in Accounting (MAcc). I'm so glad that he is finished! He is as well :) Being the crazy new mom that I am, I was desperate to find a matching cap and gown for little Reed. I looked everywhere for a gown, but no one had them. I thought the bookstore might, but no luck, and I searched everywhere online. Then, I a girl in my ward emailed the phone number of a lady in Provo that rents them out. So, the day before graduation I found Reed a matching cap and gown! I was so excited and even more excited when she had a matching tassel! Isn't he just the cutest thing in the world! I am definitely a proud mom :) The graduation was long, but great! Tyson's family got to come. My parents also flew in! It was fun to see everyone! Tyson was just happy that it was all done with!

Awwww! Daddy and baby have matching caps and gowns!

When we took Reed into the Doctor at his 4-week appointment we found out some amazing news! He gained 23 ounces in 15 days!!!! He weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces :) Well, I guess he's getting enough to eat :) I always worry about that, but am always reassured that he is eating enough! Well, that was 3 weeks ago, so I am assuming he is at least 10 pounds by now, if not close to 11 now :) He's growing so big! This is the picture of him on the scale at the doc's office :) Next is his cute little bath - I just think he looks so cute :) Lastly, we have what I call a sleep sack - it's simply amazing! Thanks Barb and Ryan! We love you!

Wow! I am gaining weight :)

Bath time is much more fun in lots of water!

My sleep sack is amazing! Thanks Barb & Ryan!

Day 28!!!

Ok, so I know that you guys can't really tell the difference between Reed when he was born and Reed now. So, I thought I would post some pictures of him wearing the same outfit! The difference is amazing! He has grown so much and is actually starting to fit into his clothes! So, the bigger pictures were taken today, April 11, 2008 - day 28 of Reed being part of our family! The smaller pictures were taken March 16, 2008 - day 3 :) Hope you can see the difference!

Day 28 - clothes are starting to fit!

"I just can't stay awake, mom!"

"But, I do have to say that I have great lips! Thanks, dad!"

Day 3 - after his first bath at home

Look how big it is on him!

He is growing so big!

So, the past almost four weeks have gone by so fast! It's crazy that Reed is almost one month! It seems so new and yet, I wonder what I did before having a child. I love being a mom! I have been a little overwhelmed at times....just knowing that he relies on us for everything - it is a bit daunting! But, I love Reed more than I could explain! I guess moms would understand....and I thought I did before I was a mom, but I realize now how much deeper the love goes! So, here are some great pictures of our little growing Reed! He is really starting to fill out - still a little skinny guy, like his dad, but his face is filling out! Tyson requested that I take more pictures of him awake.....so, here are the results! Hope you like them!

My sleeping boys! Yes, Reed is showing off his muscles!

A true cougar fan starts early :)

"Just chillin' in my Dino Camo."

"I want to touch the camera mom."

Our little angel sleeping :)

So, I am here to proudly introduce a new addition to the Tyson and Janae Walker family! His name is David Reed Walker (we are going to call him Reed...long story that I will explain if you so desire). He arrived on March 14, 2008 at 3:54 am at Orem Community Hospital! He was born a week early and here is the rundown of how it all happened. On Wednesday I went to the doctor and I was measuring smaller than I had the previous week (not a good sign at all). So, they sent me on Thursday to do a non-stress test on the baby just to make sure everything was ok with him. So, we went and the baby's heart beat/oxygen level looked great. But, when they did the mini-ultrasound she found that I was very low on amniotic fluid - not a good thing at all. I was down to a 4.6 and the normal level is around 8. In Utah they let you get down to a 5 before they will induce you. So, needless to say, they sent me to labor and delivery and I was induced at 5:45 pm on Thursday. Tyson and I were a bit shocked because we thought maybe they would schedule us for the next morning or something like that. But, I literally went from my appointment to home to get my bags and then to the labor and delivery part of the hospital. So, they put in pitossin (I'm not sure on the spelling) and that started my body contracting. Then, once I got up to the highest level, I asked for the epidural. Once I had the epidural I felt really good. But, it seemed as if labor was not progressing very well. So, I was stuck at 4 cm in dilation for lots of hours. Then at about 12:30 am the nurse checked and I was still at a 4. But, about an hour later the nurse checked again and I was at a 10 (fully dilated)!!!! So, I was pretty excited and in a bit more pain, but it was good :) So, I pushed for 2 hours, but the baby was just stuck! My body was so exhausted that I could not do it anymore. What happened was that his head did not turn when coming down the birth canal....so, it was harder for it to come out. So, they ended up calling a doctor in to help the baby out with forceps. By that point, I was just wanting it to be over. I wanted everything to be ok. So, when he got there, the baby came out in just a couple of minutes. So, at 3:54 am David Reed Walker was born. He weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. He has a bunch of beautiful dark hair and blue eyes (so far). He was so peaceful once he came out. He just looked around and up at Tyson and me :) It was truly a miracle and one of the neatest feelings in the world! So, yeah, I am a mom now! I am pretty tired, but things are going well.
